The program at BATW’s June meeting featured Morton Beebe giving a slide/video presentation illustrating his recent trip to India with National Geographic Expeditions. The comments and questions regarding Morton’s evocative images revealed substantial knowledge and genuine appreciation among the (not surprisingly) well-traveled audience.
The pre-meeting social over coffee and pastries arranged by volunteer Ed Walsh, was followed by a short business meeting. Co-President Suzie Rodriguez reminded attendees that the deadline for submissions to Clips & Pics (California National Parks Edition) is June 30. Dick Jordan announced the July 11 Bay Area Independent Publishers’ Association program on “Video as a Promotional Tool” in Novato. Suzie reminded attendees that the July BATW meeting (on the 18th) will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Book Passage in Corte Madera, featuring Chris Baker, renowned travel writer, photographer and Cuba expert. Suzie and co-President Laurie McAndish King concluded the business meeting with a “Ten Minute Tips” session on Instagram, described as “Twitter with pictures.”
Morton not only provided the program, but also the venue—his Lombard Street condominium’s comfortable meeting room. Before Morton’s show that included colorful images of New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra and the Taj Mahal and the sumptuous and elegant mode of rail transport called the “Palace on Wheels,” Jenny Foster with National Geographic Expeditions spoke. She recounted a brief history of National Geographic Society, founded in 1888 with the purpose of fostering scientific exploration, and then described National Geographic’s travel program, begun in 1999, and now encompassing 200 itineraries per year with expert (and often renowned) guides and lecturers.
Thanks to Karen Misuraca and Carol Canter for coordinating this meeting.
