April Orcutt’s latest gig as calendar columnist in the Travel section of the Los Angeles Times has seen her cover fun events such as Elvis, ukulele, luau, anime, Margarita and banana festivals. Here’s a request:

“I am looking for Southern California events for my calendar column for the Travel section of the Los Angeles Times, so if anyone (BATW corporate members or writers with SoCal connections) hears of events that might fit, please email me: april-at-aprilorcutt.com. I’m looking for cultural, quirky, silly, fun, volunteer, go-and-do (like a beach clean-up), etc., events/festivals primarily in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties (and occasionally San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Kern and Imperial Counties).

“I’m looking mainly for one-day or weekend-long events (NOT weekdays, continuing series, month-long events, restaurant weeks or special/discount stays at resorts) that are open to the general public, and I especially like free or low-cost festivals and activities.”

April’s now looking for events from May through Labor Day. “Thanks for your help,” she says.
