BATW July Event: Podcasting for Pros with NPR’s Tom Wilmer

Tom Wilmer

Join BATW member and veteran pod-master Tom Wilmer Wednesday, July 14 from 5:30-6:30 pm as he shows us the technical basics, along with some tricks of the trade, on how to create clear and marketable podcasts. The exclusive BATW zoom event is by email invitation only.

Wilmer is the winner of six SATW Lowell Thomas awards and has been an on-air host and producer at NPR California Central Coast affiliate KCBX since 1989. He was one of the pioneering podcast hosts when the total aggregated count of podcasts worldwide was less than 100,000—today there are more than 2.5 million podcasts worldwide, and he’s just as in demand now as he was at the beginning.

Some highlights of the presentation will be:

*Essentials of field and in-home studio recording tips

*Creating a visual experience for the listener

*Successful interviewing techniques

*Exploring the difference between storytelling vs. the Q&A approach

*Recommended recorder/microphone and free-download audio-editing suite suggestions

Journeys of Discovery with Tom Wilmer is a featured show on NPR.ORG’s Podcast Directory and the NPR One mobile app, in addition to more than 20 podcast sites such as Apple, Stitcher.com and iHeart Radio. A multiple Lowell Thomas winner, he’s also received various regional awards, and his rust-belt community’s reinvention show was featured on Harvard’s Kennedy School for Democratic Governance and Innovation.
