Joan Gelfand recently joined BATW as a General Member. We look forward to welcoming her at our upcoming events. In the meantime, here’s a little background:

Joan Gelfand’s letters, articles, reviews and poetry have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Poets & Writers, Vanity Fair and numerous national and international literary journals and magazines.

Joan holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Mills College in Oakland, California and is the author of three full-length poetry collections.

She was awarded the Cervena Barva Award for short fiction for her collection “Here and Abroad,” has been nominated for Pushcart, Carve and PEN awards, and won Poets 11, a San Francisco city-wide poetry competition judged by Jack Hirschman.

Joan currently serves as Development Chair of the Women’s National Book Association, is a regular blogger for the Huffington Post, and is a juror for the Northern California Book Awards.
