November Meeting, Commonwealth Club SF: Saturday, November 16

Bring your walking shoes: The Commonwealth Club will host the BATW’s  Nov 16 meeting at 110 The Embarcadero, with breakfast, an informative talk on mission-oriented travel — and an historic walking tour of the San Francisco waterfront with local and much lauded guide Rick Evans.
The organization recently moved to its new location, but was founded in San Francisco 116 years ago to study and discuss problems and their solutions. It has hosted California governors and U.S. presidents – beginning with Theodore Roosevelt in 1911– Nobel and Pulitzer laureates and leading thinkers, doers and innovators of the time. Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi and Bill Gates have all given landmark speeches at the Club.
Breakfast will be served beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the rooftop terrace (weather willing) of its new headquarters, opened in 2017, followed by a tour of the building.
Kristina Nemeth, the Commonwealth travel director, will speak about its educational or mission-directed travel programs, and about the growing educational travel industry which features experts and educators as tour guides.
The BATW will undertake its own educational tour with Rick Evans, who will lead us on a one-hour walking and talking tour of the historic San Francisco waterfront, one of several specialized tours offers. Rick has been named one of the world’s greatest tour guides by Travel+Leisure, and specializes in San Francisco tours with an emphasis on architecture and history.
