September Meeting Cancellation – Tuolumne County

For the first time ever, a BATW meeting was cancelled due to a natural disaster.
Tuolumne County, site of our planned September 18-20 meeting, was not directly involved in the massive Butte Fire that broke out in Amador and Calaveras Counties on September 9. However, our meeting venues were close enough to the fire that air quality had been considerably worsened; in addition, hotel rooms were needed for fire fighters and those left homeless.
As of September 29, the fire is 96% contained. The tragic statistics to date include two civilian fatalities, 70,868 acres burned, and 475 residences/343 outbuildings destroyed. You can learn more about this fire on the official CalFire website.
Although our wonderful, fully-packed meeting/event in Tuolumne County was cancelled, plans are underway to reschedule the event in late winter or early spring 2016, either as a weekend meeting or as a press trip.
Meanwhile, thanks to Anna Davies and everyone else at Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau, and to Susan Wilson (BATW Associate member) and Suzie Rodriguez (BATW co-President) for their hard work on this event.
