BATW October Meeting – Saturday, Oct. 19
10 a.m. – noon
Presentation & Tour of the Craneway Pavilion and Rosie the Riveter/World War II National Historical Park
At Ford Point, Richmond, CA 94804
This meeting has been arranged by BATW member Georgia Hesse.
At this writing, about 40 members are planned for at the Craneway Conference Center. Coffee, tea, and pastries will be served. Craneway is the gargantuan event space in the former Ford Assembly Plant, designed by artful architect Albert Kahn and opened in August, 1931. It elbows and now is a part of the (properly named) Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park. We will meet in the Craneway Conference Center, be given a short introduction and tour, then go to the park’s Visitor Center to begin our trek around its major attractions: the Rosie Memorial, Kaiser Shipyard No. 3, and the SS Red Oak Victory Ship, the last of the carrier fleet, launched on Sept. 9, 1944.
Details of the meeting, parking, directions, etc., will be supplied shortly.
