I am happy to be part of such an accomplished group. My youngest son is about to leave for his freshman year at San Diego State, joining his brother who is entering his senior year there. This happy development (happy for me; my wife has bittersweet feelings) has cleared the house of children, at least for the moment, and allowed me, once again, to dream dreams of the open road.
I feel lucky to be a writer and to have worked my whole life as a writer and author. I have written more than 20 books on a variety of subjects that have sold hundreds of thousands of copies, and published countless articles both online and print. A few of my books have won writing awards, and another one was sold to Hollywood (though never developed into a movie). I am currently developing a book proposal about Yosemite, one of my favorite places, where I’ve been hiking and climbing since I was a teenager.
I’m the feature writer for Preiser Key, a wine country magazine, and I write pieces for them on Napa-Sonoma wineries. Another place I like to contribute to is Dave’s Travel Corner, a popular international travel site. Though it pays nothing, I know Dave a little bit and I enjoy the gig. But I am definitely interested in expanding my horizons as a writer, and am more than happy to share my knowledge of books, literary agents, and the sometimes forbidding world of book publishing while learning more about travel writing and the travel industry.
