BATW is kicking off 2023 at the historic Treasure Island Museum which will open its doors for us from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023 to introduce one of the little-known gems of the Bay Area. Guests welcome!
We’ll celebrate 2023 with a “golden hour” party, sipping wines, beers and booze made right on the island and snack on finger foods from Mersea Restaurant as the sunset slowly turns the San Francisco skyline aglow across the bay. Libations provided by Gold Bar Whiskey, Treecraft Distillery, Woods Beer & Wine and Treasure Island Wines. We’ll also be announcing and celebrating the Rebecca Bruns award honoree and the new 2023 BATW board.
A brief talk introduces us to this man-made island and a timeline exhibition of its history. And what history! Created for the 1939-1940 Golden Gate International Exposition and a base for trans-Pacific flights of the amphibious Pan American Airlines Clipper, “TI” became a naval base in World War II. Closed in 1997, the island became a sleepy backwater with a population under 3,000, until now: major renovations are updating the infrastructure, adding multi-million-dollar condos and putting this hidden-in-plain sight prime destination on the tourism map.
Proximity to both the East Bay and San Francisco—and killer sunset views of the San Francisco skyline – already draw tour busses and camera-snapping tourists. This uniquely Bay area museum is steps from the ferry from San Francisco, with plenty free parking.
More party details to follow. Get out your yayas and your party partner and sign up now so we can stock enough food and drink!
