Saturday, April 13, 10-2 p.m. with press rates or comps (for members on assignment) at select hotels if you want to come early for Second Friday Art About and/or stay late for Saturday afternoon and evening activities (see below).
Davis is on the forefront of California’s Farm to Fork movement. The Yolo County Visitors Bureau hosts the April 13 meeting (note the second Saturday of the month) at 10 a.m. at the new Robert Mondavi Institute for Food and Wine Science on the campus of U.C. After the meeting, we’ll walk (or van) to lunch at the renowned Davis Farmers Market where we’ll each get $10 in Market Bucks vouchers to spend on fresh made “naanwiches,” tamales, Indian fare, hotdogs, “sammies,” and an abundance fruit, nuts, veggies, fresh squeezed apple juice, and other beverages. Additional Saturday afternoon activities include: a guided tour along the Davis Transmedia Art Walk. This is a first-in-the-nation collection of public art throughout the downtown and the U.C. Davis campus where many of the pieces are equipped with RFID chips. Using a scanner on your cell phone, the chips lead viewers to more information about the art, including videos of the artists at work; viewers can also leave their own messages.
