 The meeting will begin with a presentation segment by Elaine on the history of Black travel entitled “From the Slaveship to the Spaceship” followed by Faith who will share her efforts to decolonize travel writing, update the canon, expand the definition of travel writing and find, mentor, edit, publish and amplify the huge numbers of Black and Brown travelers. ELAINE LEE is the editor of a travel anthology entitled “Go Girl” The Black Woman’s Book of Travel and Adventure”, which was just named one of Oprah Magazine’s “26 Best Travel Books That Will Take You All Around the World. Her travel writing has been showcased in numerous national magazines, anthologies and webzines. She has appeared on numerous local and national radio and TV shows. She developed and hosted one of the Bay Area’s first travel radio shows, which aired regularly on the KPFA-FM for seven years. Her website ugogurl.com is a leading portal for information on black travel, black travel writing and travel media information. She has visited 65 countries and completed two solo trips around the world.
 
FAITH ADIELE is founder of VONA Travel, the nation’s first writing workshop for BIPOC (BIPOC) travelers, and author of Meeting Faith, an account of becoming Thailand’s first black Buddhist nun that won the PEN Open Book Award. The PBS documentary My Journey Home follows her journey to Nigeria to find family. Senior editor at Panorama: The Journal of Intelligent Travel, she penned the introduction to Best Women’s Travel Writing 2009 and has stories in multiple volumes.
