An architectural photography workshop in the rain? Those of us who’d signed up for this BATW event were pondering what that would be like, after awakening to torrents of rain on Saturday, May 4th. Despite the heavy and unseasonable downpour, most of us made it to our destination, the Apple Store on Union Square, just as the skies began to clear.
Our workshop leaders began our iPhone photo tour with some photography best practices and iPhone setting tips. Given that the focus (see what I did there?) of our workshop was architectural photography, our group soon headed outdoors to put what we’d learned into practice. Our workshop leaders led us through the neighborhood north and east of Union Square, stopping to give us pointers at photogenic spots. A tour bonus was the architectural history that one of our guides provided along the way. And despite the occasional raindrop, the weather cooperated for the tour.
We celebrated at the end of the workshop and the post-pluvial skies by heading to the recently renovated Starlite bar at the top of the Beacon Grand hotel for happy hour. For $5, we were treated by our hosts to an impressive collection of cocktails and eats while enjoying panoramic views of the city.
The classic drinks included the espresso breakfast martini and pisco punch, and the appetizers included a beautiful and tasty tuna crudo and some pillowy, gourmet grilled cheese mini-sandwiches. A lovely and satisfying way to wrap up our afternoon.
