“2018: A Year of Accomplishments”
What a year this has been! As 2018 speeds to its end, I took a moment to think about what BATW members have accomplished and experienced this year.
And it’s impressive. The list is too long to name individuals: take a look at the short articles on the home page where some achievements are highlighted. Several members have written and published books, and won awards. The quality of our members’ websites has ticked up a notch or more – as have the materials from BATW members posted on them. We’ve seen articles from — well, from just about every continent, along with some stunning photography, podcasts and videos.
But most satisfying to me, as your fledgling president, has been the collegial participation in monthly meetings, and the truly generous efforts so many of us have put into helping each other. We’ve had some terrific presentations from our members, aimed at improving our skills and tools, from websites to phone camera photography to blogging, tweeting, posting and pitching. We’ve visited the Oakland Airport, Boudin Bakery, The Presidio, Tiburon, Apple headquarters, the Computer History Museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Savanna Jazz Club, BAMPFA, and the Dickens Christmas Fair. And we’ve supported each other with good advice and applause.
Thanks to all of you, and to all of our wonderful volunteers. Let’s celebrate ourselves, as we end the year with a holiday party, Sunday, Dec. 9, at the newest hotspot in the area: Treasure Island. Looking forward to seeing you all there – and to a great 2019!
