Iconic Mount View Hotel & Spa Celebrates Centennial

Calistoga, CA – 2019 marks the centennial anniversary for the iconic Mount View Hotel & Spa that has stood in the heart of downtown Calistoga for 100 years.  The Mount View pays tribute to their history – celebrating the anniversary with a recent renovation, special packages, spa treatments, guest experiences and a continued spirit of giving that is worthy of this momentous occasion.
HISTORY & RENOVATION
In 1919, Johnny Ghisolfo made the decision to construct a hotel that would withstand the test of time. After witnessing extensive fire damage to the downtown area in the 20^th century, Johnny built a structure encompassed by 8-inch thick concrete walls to anchor the Mount View Hotel in his Napa Valley community. Johnny’s forethought now allows future generations to experience a time that passed but not been forgotten.
In the late 1970’s designers Jerry Roy and Paul Pilgrim transformed the original Mission Revival structure which had suffered neglect during the depression and two world wars. The team restored the building to its original grandeur unveiling a charming Art Deco-influenced boutique hotel. The Mount View is a living masterpiece of Art Deco from the 1920s and 30s. It was the Mission Revival style and Art Deco influence that won recognition for the Mount View in the 1981 National Register. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation.
Since 1990, Michael Woods and his family have carried on the “family ownership tradition” that began with the Ghisolfos who owned the hotel for more than 50 years. The Woods family has been dedicated to preserving the hotel in true Art Deco style.  In 2019, Stephanie Woods orchestrated a series of renovations throughout the historic hotel that now welcome guests to celebrate the centennial anniversary. The newly renovated spaces include the lobby, guest suites, pool, outdoor lounge and the Indie Blue Salon – an exquisite, unique coffee and wine venue.

CENTENNIAL PARTY – The Mount View will host an anniversary party on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with local dignitaries, guests, community partners, friends and neighbors.  Calistoga’s Mayor, Chris Canning will present the Mount View with a proclamation in honor of this moment in history.
GIVING BACK
2019 offered a wonderful and very meaningful way to commemorate the Mount View 100 Year Anniversary. Through the hotel’s Change the World While You Sleep program – with every night’s stay, the Mount View donates 50% of their profits to organizations selected by the Woods family.  This year, they distributed the first donation checks to non-profits that support women, children, health, the environment and local causes.  The ongoing program continues with monies raised and donated to non-profits on an annual basis.
