June Meeting: San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge – June 15

BATW – June Meeting – June 15, 2013

10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge: Its History and Aesthetics” –

Presented by Donald MacDonald

Location: The meeting room at Mort Beebe’s condo, 150 Lombard St., San Francisco
Mort Beebe has arranged for us to meet his good friend and noted bridge designer Donald MacDonald, a key player in the design of the new east span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Working with the acclaimed New York bridge engineering firm of Weidlinger Associates, the team designed and conceptualized various modifications on a self-anchoring suspension system to create a signature bridge for the San Francisco Bay.
MacDonald will talk about the history of the Bay Bridge and its new additions, the aesthetic elements that influenced its design and the bridge’s relationship to the surrounding environment.
