Olmec: Colossal Masterworks of Ancient Mexico“: BATW Members are invited to a special event hosted by the de Young Museum in conjunction with the upcoming exhibit that opens later this month. We’ll be taken on a docent-led tour of the exhibit that features artifacts from the Olmec civilization which began around 1400 BC, and was located in the Mexican states of Veracruz and Tabasco. On display will be enormous basalt heads – some of which weigh between 7 and 10 tons.

The museum is providing free docent-led tours that will begin at 10:15 am (sharp!), followed by an opportunity to gather and compare notes in the museum’s onsite restaurant. The ability to be able to tour this exciting exhibit (which features many objects never seen outside of Mexico) was coordinated by BATW Vice-President Georgia Hesse.

More details will come in your email.
