On June 17, 2020, the County of San Mateo announced that our region has fully aligned itself to be on the same reopening schedule as the State of California. This announcement means that hotels within San Mateo County, which were limited to providing accommodations for essential-related needs only since mid-March, are now allowed to welcome leisure travel and tourism. The new order also allows the reopening of restaurants (for dine-in), wineries, bars, museums, campgrounds, outdoor recreations, among other things. This reopening announcement is an exciting and welcoming message for the entire hospitality industry in our county and it is a positive sign that safety guidelines are being met.

“We are so pleased to once again have the ability to welcome leisure travelers! During the shelter-in-place period, our hotel partners have worked extremely hard, implementing best-in-class sanitation practices to give visitors a sense of safety and security,” said John Hutar, Bureau President and CEO.

This announcement also aligns perfectly with the County’s decisions to reopen leisure-related attractions such as beaches and parks last month.

“With 70% of our county designated as open space, our region offers unparalleled access to nature and outdoor beauty,” said Hutar.

In order to help promote the County’s decision to reopen, the San Mateo County/Silicon Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau will be launching a new campaign, “Reopened & Ready”. Once signed by a business, this Pledge states that the business and its employees are taking every precaution to keep visitors safe and healthy, as we move through the phases of reopening in our county. Local businesses may take the pledge by visiting: www.ReopenedandReady.com.

“After months of preparation and education on enhanced sanitation protocols, we are excited to launch our Reopened & Ready efforts!” said Hutar.
