Tenaya Lodge Introduces New Explorer Cabins

Tenaya Lodge is elevating the Yosemite experience this summer with the debut of the Explorer Cabins at Tenaya Lodge. The picturesque cabin development will offer guests a unique Yosemite “cabineering” experience that combines the refined comforts of a modern cabin, personalized service and the perks of a full-service resort — all in a pristine mountain setting.

The 50 stand-alone, two-bedroom Explorer Cabins are nestled within a forest of sugar pines and incense cedars and surrounded by nature trails. Part of a $25 million investment to enhance the resort’s lodging, dining and recreation options in 2019, the cabins offer families and groups of friends spacious, relaxed and well-appointed accommodations that are intimately connected to the adventure and captivating natural beauty of the Yosemite-Sierra region.

“Cabins are synonymous with getting away from it all, outdoor adventure and fun experiences that strengthen bonds between family and friends,” Tenaya General Manger Paul Ratchford said.

“The Explorer Cabins are ideal for making memories and setting the stage for family traditions for years to come. Guests can spend the day discovering beautiful forest trails and unique points of interest or simply relaxing while playing board games together, but still have access to the convenience, technology, comfort and amenities of a full-service resort,” Ratchford said.

At 650 square feet, the “mountain modern” cabins sleep up to six guests and include a living room, kitchen area, two bedrooms and a private deck from which to unwind after a day of adventure. Each cabin has a fireplace and custom finishes and fixtures such as granite countertops, plank flooring, plush sleeper sofa and cozy Pendleton blankets.

Artwork featuring noteworthy Yosemite explorers provides a glimpse into the region’s history, while thoughtful amenities such as a cabin journal for guests to leave observations and tips for fellow travelers, discovery cards highlighting area flora and fauna and custom amenities on arrival further the connection with the iconic location.

The Explorer Cabins are clustered to accommodate a range of travel preferences and needs, and are designated as family cabins, premium cabins or deluxe cabins. Five of the premium/deluxe cabins are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible with widened doorways, a larger bathroom, grab bars where needed and other features essential to make them accessible for all guests. Several cabins of different types are pet-friendly.

The family cabins, outfitted with bunk beds in the second bedroom, are nestled in the interior areas and grouped for easy socialization and community gathering. The premium and deluxe cabins offer scenic views of the nearby creek and natural pond, and are located along the site perimeter for a greater sense of privacy, seclusion and romance.

Since reducing its environmental impact is a priority at Tenaya, solar panels will be installed on one cabin as part of parent company Delaware North’s GreenPath® renewable resource initiative. Running entirely on solar energy, the cabin not only is eco-friendly, but also will allow the property to determine the feasibility of converting additional cabins to solar in the future.

Further personalizing the Explorer Cabin experience is the Camp Host, an onsite “ambassador of adventure” who interacts with guests throughout their stay. Hosts provide everything from local history and activity recommendations to evening storytelling around the campfire and tips for making the perfect s’mores.

Cabin guests also have exclusive access to the Explorer Clubhouse, an 1,800-square-foot communal retreat with relaxed gathering areas and an expansive deck with picturesque views. A hub of activity, the clubhouse offers easy check-in, convenient grab-and-go daily breakfast, evening wine and charcuterie receptions and other special events.

Communal fire pit areas are sprinkled throughout the cabin clusters and invite guests to gather for s’mores and stargazing after a day of exploring. Cabineers are just steps away from the resort’s popular Old West Summerdale Barbecue, which features themed dinner and entertainment beneath the stars. More options, including a luxury spa, restaurants, pools and recreational activities are just an easy walk or resort shuttle ride away at Tenaya’s main lodge.

Peak season cabin rates start at $719 per night and include complimentary daily breakfast and the evening wine reception at the clubhouse. The resort is currently accepting reservations for stays in the two-bedroom Explorer Cabins in early summer. For more information, visit www.tenayalodge.com.
