BATW members get a fresh look at Alcatraz tourism in our June 17 meeting. Our guide will be VP of Visitor Programs and Services, Sean Kelley, who is working to broaden the former prison’s public programming and displays. New exhibits include: Welcome to Indian Land: Resistance, Resilience and Activism and The Big Lockup: Mass Incarceration in the United States.

Kelley is an internationally recognized expert on prison museums, who for many years oversaw programming and education at the historic Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia – one of the first prisons in the U.S., He will personally lead BATW members on a behind-the-scenes tour, including parts of Alcatraz rarely seen by visitors. He will also provide information on the full range of public tours and other programming offered on the island, which he hopes that BATW participants will share in stories for national and local publications.

Look for your invitation by email, soon.
